Google Chrome is going to support extensions, just one step closer to the finish line. Developers can now upload their extensions to Google Chrome’s extension gallery.

During the last few months, Google Chrome team has been working hard to support extensions in Google Chrome’s beta channel (Chromium). They are making the upload flow available early to make sure that developers have the time to publish their extensions ahead of their full launch.
Are you Developers?
If you are interested to write an extension for Google Chrome, you can find all the info in this documentation. You can write them using web technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

Once your extension is ready for the gallery, you’ll need to upload a zip file of your code and an icon that helps users distinguish your extension.
For most extensions, the review process is fully automated. The only extensions we’ll review manually are those that include an NPAPI component and all content scripts that affect
"file://"URLs. For security reasons, developers of these types of extensions will need to provide some additional information before they can post them in the gallery.
Google Chrome – A Lightweight Browser?
Google Chrome has taken a further step to compete with the “extensions king” — Mozilla Firefox. No doubt, extensions play an important role to make Google Chrome grows.
Google Chrome was first launched September 2008, most of us know that it is emphasize on lightweight and simple, but from what I have seen, I think Google Chrome is no longer a lightweight browser anymore, after the extension gallery launched.
Of course, Chrome users can decide which extensions to install by themselves. Google Chrome can still be a lightweight browser if the users choose not to install any extensions, thus they might lost some important features.
